As part of monitoring the introduction and implementation of the optional subject of civic education in secondary schools, a multi-day meeting was held with teachers from May 5th to May 7th, 2023, at the Moise Palace on the island of Cres as part of the “School and Community“ project (S&C; Škola i zajednica – ŠiZ in Croatian). Teachers from the City of Zagreb, Krapina-Zagorje County, and Primorje-Gorski Kotar County discussed their experiences of implementation, possibilities for developing the existing curriculum, as well as how students in their groups will take action in the community in the final phase of this subject. The discussion and work were facilitated by the project team, consisting of scientists from the University of Rijeka, Institute for Social Research in Zagreb, Institute of Social Sciences Ivo Pilar and the University of Zadar, as well as the teachers from Prva riječka hrvatska gimnazija. It is worth noting that ŠiZ is implemented in a total of 59 upper secondary schools in Croatia with over 1,280 students participating.
