The goals of the Sweet&Salt flagship (S&S) are presented on a scale that progresses from micro, over medium, to macro goals – ranging from the least demanding over the moderate to the especially daunting. Each subsequent level maintains the goals of its predecessor and upgrades them with new desiderata.
MINIMUM
1. Establishing an S&S Lab: The Laboratory / Center / Institute for Urban Reinvention as a facility within the Center for Advanced Studies – South East Europe (CAS – SEE) founded by the University of Rijeka, the City of Rijeka and the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County. The Laboratory / Center / Institute for Urban Reinvention will be located at the Campus or in a selected space within the S&S area. The Laboratory / Center / Institute for Urban Reinvention purports to commence a program of formal and informal education whose accreditations would be verified by the University of Rijeka and which would become the first study program of this kind within the region. In addition to this primary goal, the Laboratory / Center / Institute for Urban Reinvention would host various scientific, artistic and participatory programs and projects.
a 2017 – 2020 The Laboratory / Center / Institute for Urban Reinvention will biannually generate two-day Fashion Weeks and other scientific-artistic-participatory events with international partner institutions – activities oriented towards creating networks, content and capacities for 2020 within the entire area of S&S.
b 2020 – The Laboratory / Center / Institute for Urban Reinvention will perform two major, five days long international scientific-artistic-participatory events – Fashion Week Spring / Summer and Fashion Week Autumn / Winter – as well as a series of other programs (lectures, exhibitions, round tables, public debates, concerts, performances, installations, participatory activities and such) in the spaces of the Laboratory / Center / Institute for Urban Reinvention and within the S&S zone (ranging from Hartera to Molo Longo).
MEDIUM
2. Establishing an S&S Lab: The Laboratory / Center / Institute for Urban Reinvention as a facility within the Center for Advanced Studies – South East Europe (CAS – SEE) founded by the University of Rijeka, the City of Rijeka and the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County: The Laboratory / Center / Institute for Urban Reinvention will be located in the Delta 5 building that ought to undergo thorough renovation in order to become a center of scientific-artistic-participatory agency. The reinvention of the building would serve as an example of a space inspired by the manifest, politics and projects of the whole flagship.
2a Development of the S&S district adjacent to the Delta 5 building (S&S Lab) – Exportdrvo – HNK Ivana pl. Zajca – Galeb. This goal is compatible with the existing plans of re-inventing spaces that could form a coherent whole and turn this district into a center of intensive activity by 2020.
MAXIMUM
3. S&S activities of urban reinvention should extend to incorporate a broader area, ranging from Delta over the S&S District to Molo Logo, all in accordance to the S&S Manifest, its politics and projects.
This intervention would include the dislocation of current traffic from the city center, the removal of cycle traffic from the city center, an extension of walking areas, a bathing resort and a central city space (connecting the Rječina River with the sea) for open communication with the citizens.
The final scope of the S&S initative is to be defined during the first part of 2017 in order to further elaborate the road-map, supporting personnel, infrastructure and spatial and budgeting needs.
