Inspired by the creation of long-term academic synergies within Southeast Europe declared through establishing of RECAS – Regional Network of Centers for Advanced Studies of Southeast Europe and Western Balkans, we are pleased to announce the CALL for FELLOWSHIPS APPLICATIONS

CAPRIS UKIM invites young post-doc researchers, junior fellows, advanced PhD students and professionals from the field of Architecture, Urban Planning and Design, Visual Arts, Performative Arts, Civic and ICT Engineers, Data researchers, Environmental scientists, Social scientists, Philosophers and others to perform their research in a highly collaborative and experimental setting, characterized by independent study with guidance and input from and exchange with leading scientists and emerging innovators, designers and scholars from Europe and beyond.

The fellowship program will focus on cross-cultural and cross-disciplinary research and innovation; exploring innovative social and urban models for a more socially and culturally sustainable and shared global future. It will be taught by an international body of visiting renown researchers and scholars as well as select teaching staff from the UKIM and partner Universities.

The work of fellows should be focused on new forms of spatial thinking, alternative modes of defining a data and evidence driven project, and innovative ways of practicing as a social and technical innovator and a researcher. Future fellows should foster integrated urban planning and design knowledge, considering urban environment, architecture and urban design as complex connection between technical, cultural, social, and economic factors, as well as of strategic, organizational, and spatial considerations.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent, obtain a maximum of 8 years prior to the call deadline.

PhD candidates may be considered exceptionally, provided that their research proposal demonstrates a significant contribution to the overall program objectives.

Applicants are expected to be able to communicate fluently in English as this is the working language of the Fellowship.

Researchers from all countries are eligible to apply for the program, providing they work in the theme of the call.

The program is open to all disciplines in the fields of engineering, humanities, social sciences, and arts.


CONDITIONS

Fellowships will run for 6 months (residency of 6 month) period in two cohorts, first from October 2024 to March, 2025 and the second cohort from March, 2025 to August, 2025. The expected start of the fellowship period for the first cohort is October, 2024.

Fellows will receive a net monthly stipend of 1,000 Euros.

Fellows will receive a basic health insurance for the period of fellowship.

CAPRIS UKIM will provide an assistance for the administrative procedure for regulating their residency in North Macedonia for the duration of the fellowship.

Fellows will receive an additional funding for conference fees, publications fees, travel and accommodation costs, in total amount of maximum 1500 Euro per fellow. Fellows are responsible for their own travel, accommodation and health care provisions.

Fellows are expected to participate at the Moise Architectural Seminar during their fellowship on the island of Cres at the Moise Palace, a Renaissance palace managed by the University of Rijeka. The Moise Palace serves as a research retreat; a regional hub for the advancement of social science, humanities, art, and interdisciplinary research; and a space of engagement and exchange with local communities.

The research can plan and perform a visit to partner university or Center for Advanced Studies within the RECAS Network that can last up to maximum of 4 weeks (28 days). Proof of expenses will be required to reimburse the costs.

During fellowship period, each researcher is required to write a minimum of one paper on the theme of the fellowship. At the end of the fellowship, researchers must submit a short activity report to describe the outputs of the fellowship. Details will be provided once the fellowship is granted.

Fellows are chosen through a rigorous selection process, which includes stages of pre-selection and a decision made by an independent, interdisciplinary, and international Selection Committee.
