Are effective actions against the use of violence possible, and if so – in what terms? The political, verbal and identity violence that pervades the languages and actions of the institutions, is causing us to rethink the critical tools that we want to put in place to face it.
Starting from the unpublished essay by Judith Butler, this issue of “aut aut” has tried to reflect on the matter in question, focusing in particular on the concept of vulnerability and the persistent misogyny at the bottom of the discourses of power.
The presentation of “aut aut: Pensare la violenza” was held at Lovat Library, Trieste on February 13th, 2020. The Special Issue of “aut aut” features texts which have been developed in the course of the CAS SEE 2018 Summer School “Critique of Violence Now. From Thinking to Acting against Violence”.
The issue was presented by:
SERGIA ADAMO, the editor of “aut aut”. She teaches Comparative Literature at the University of Trieste.
SANJA BOJANIĆ, professor at the Academy of Applied Arts and executive director at the Center of Advanced Studies of Southeast Europe at the University of Rijeka.
DAMIANO CANTONE, the editor of “aut aut”. He is a Ph.D. student in Neuroscience at the Sapienza University of Rome. He also teaches Literature and History in Italian high schools.
