TITLE: Student protests in Serbia

This presentation examines the ongoing student protests in Serbia and how they have challenged the country’s increasingly authoritarian regime. Instead of relying on leaders and centralized structures, the protests use direct democracy and plenums to deliberate and make collective decisions. Ideologically, they unite around a shared “minimum”: the rejection of corruption and authoritarianism, and the demand for rule of law, democracy, and accountability. The talk explores how this horizontal, decentralized, and depersonalized approach compares to other youth-led movements around the world, why it has proven effective in Serbia, and what challenges lie ahead.
