CAS SEE at the Krispies Festival on the Dinaric Karst in Tribalj
Dr Katarina Kušić from the Centre for Advanced Studies Southeast Europe took part in the fifth edition of the Krasopis Festival, held from 23 to 25 October 2026 at Hotel Balatura in Tribalj, in the Vinodol Valley. The festival is dedicated to the research, promotion, and protection of karst, and brings together scientists, philosophers, writers, artists, and activists from Croatia and abroad to discuss the challenges facing the Dinaric Karst landscape and its future.
Dr Kušić gave a lecture titled “Karst in Political Thought: Conflicts, Crises, Hopes” as part of a programme that also included talks on biodiversity, the philosophy of Ivan Illich, the hydrogeology of Lika, and river protection in the Dinaric Karst. This year’s edition focused on the theme “Life – Water – Activism”, and closed with a round table with the “Gospić je naš dom” initiative that is currently protesting for the remediation of polluting waste illegally deposited in the Lika karst. The participation connected CAS SEE’s research on planetary politics and the Dinaric Karst with a wider community of researchers, artists, and local initiatives working to understand and protect the karst landscape.
