ERC at UNIRI: International workshop
South Eastern Europe in ERC projects: perspectives, challenges, scales – International workshop
Over the last two decades, several ERC projects have included South Eastern Europe in their geographical framework, an area whose boundaries are constantly debated. The quest for groundbreaking research, central to schemes supported by the European Research Council, also entails redefining geographical areas. By viewing SEE from a specific perspective and relating it to other macro-areas (Central-Eastern Europe, Mediterranean Europe…), new challenges and opportunities emerge. In this sense, ERC projects emphasize their contribution to challenging established narratives. Although these projects’ spatial frameworks extend beyond the (post)Yugoslav area, their methodological contributions remain particularly relevant for reflecting on this region, which is often analyzed through a lens of exceptionality.
The workshop aims to bring together an interdisciplinary group of scholars currently involved in ERC projects, either as principal investigators or team members, to share insights, reflections, and starting points for further elaboration of some of these threads beyond the projects’ duration. The workshop is hosted by the Center for Advanced Studies Southeast Europe, and it is jointly organized by the CAS Southeast Europe and the ERC projects OpenBorders and HumanEuroMed, in collaboration with the ERC projects HousingYU, Revenant, Brokers of NAM, FeMMiWork, MemPop, Nepostrans, and Racial Socialism.
