Science × Society

Overview
Training the next generation of science-society communicators (SciXSoc) is an Erasmus Mundus Design Measure (EMDM) project aimed at jointly designing a new, integrated international Master’s program connecting science, technology, public engagement, science communication, and policymaking. The program will combine interdisciplinary and practice-based learning with compulsory international physical mobility and a joint-degree model. It seeks to address the gap between scientific research and innovation, public engagement, and evidence-informed policymaking, particularly in Central and Southeastern Europe.
Project duration:October 2026-January 2028
Funder (Donor): European Commission – Erasmus+ Programme, Erasmus Mundus Design Measures (EMDM) ERASMUS-EDU-2026-EMJM-DESIGN
Coordinator: University of Ljubljana (UL), Slovenia
Consortium partners: University of Nova Gorica (UNG), Slovenia; University of Klagenfurt (AAU), Austria; University of Rijeka (UNIRI), Croatia; Ca’ Foscari University of Venice (UNIVE), Italy; SISSA – International School for Advanced Studies, Italy.
Outcomes / Highlights
The main outcome will be an implementation- and accreditation-ready design for a new Erasmus Mundus Joint Master (EMJM). The consortium will develop an integrated curriculum and competence framework; learning outcomes and mobility structure; common admission and student-selection procedures; joint examination, monitoring and assessment rules; common student services covering areas such as language support, visas and inclusion; a joint promotion and recruitment strategy; administrative and financial management arrangements; a joint-degree policy; and near-final Partnership and Student Agreements. These outputs will be consolidated into an EMJM-readiness roadmap to support a subsequent Erasmus Mundus Joint Master application. The project also aims to strengthen cross-border cooperation and train future professionals capable of linking scientific knowledge with public engagement, democratic participation and evidence-informed policy.
CAS’s contribution
The responsibilities among consortium members include program architecture, student services, recruitment, legal framework development, quality assurance, curriculum development, communication and practice-based engagement.
