Island Connect at the Moise Palace

Island Connect is a collaborative program between five performing arts organisations, working with residencies located on (or associated with) European islands of different countries. They are united in this project by a common interest in contributing to the creation and consolidation of performing arts, with an important ambition to support the artists in their personal and professional development.

By being held in authentic locations, the residency program provides the opportunity to break away from the usual hectic pace, while focusing on issues such as sustainability, local community needs, and skills exchange. Croatian artists travel to Mallorca and Denmark to explore the boundaries of animation, contemporary circus and new media, and the Moise Palace on Cres becomes a residence for European art groups and a space of freedom, cooperation and creativity.

In September, Danish artists led by choreographer Sophie Mage and Spanish artists led by Pero Masa came to the island of Cres to develop their art projects at the Moise Palace. After two weeks of residency group of performers presented two performances to the audience, on Saturday, 26th September at the Moise Palace.

Result of the residency was a pre-premiere of the dance performance Vibrant Matter which will premiere in Copenhagen in early October. After a short break, the multicultural theatrical collective No Crecerán Las Lechugas from Spain, Uruguay and Mexico performed a piece called “C.E.T. – Cuando esto termine” (“When this is over”), a re-examination of the issue of intimacy among people in the age of screens and monitors, inspired by 60 days of isolation due to Covid-19 pandemic.

Partners of the Island Connect are BIRCA – Bækkelund, International Art Residential Center (Bornholm, Denmark), C.I.N.E. – Center d’Investigació Escènica de Sineu (Mallorca, Balearic Islands, Spain), ENTROPIA (Athens, Greece – residence on the island of Naxos), Irish Aerial Creation Center (Limerick, Ireland), and Domino from Croatia. In Croatia, the residency program is held through the Fund program for other by Domino association in cooperation with the University of Rijeka (Moise Palace, Cres), through the platform of the Performing Arts Network with the support of the Kultura Nova Foundation and through the European project ACT: Art, Climate, Transition with the support of the program Creative Europe of the European Union.
